Christmas competition transforms children’s designs into festive lights

Two Year 3 pupils at Cloudside Primary Academy in Derbyshire enjoyed seeing their Christmas designs brought to life as part of the Sandiacre Christmas lights.

Cloudside Academy pupils Matilda and Hayden switched on the Christmas tree lights in Sandiacre, Derbyshire

Hayden Wells, aged 8, and Matilda Palmer, aged 7, were excited to see their designs transformed into lights and form part of the Sandiacre Christmas street lights display. As an additional bonus, Hayden and Matilda were asked to turn on the Christmas tree lights.

Miss Milson, Head of School at Cloudside Academy:

“We are very proud of Hayden and Matilda along with all the children who took part. It has been a wonderful experience for them which they have really enjoyed. At Cloudside, we love to be creative and get involved with projects that have a positive impact for the community, so we jumped at the opportunity to take part. As a whole community we are proud every time we see Hayden and Matilda’s Christmas lights and this will continue every year that they are displayed.”

Both designs captured the essence of Christmas. Hayden’s design was a candy cane which incorporated two wrapped presents while Matilda opted for a festive reindeer.

Cloudside Primary was approached by Sandiacre Parish Council in July to run the competition to design a new motif for the Sandiacre Christmas lights.  The project encourages children to be creative and get involved with their local community.

Well done everyone!
